It’s cold outside, but that just makes being active outside more exciting. Here is a list of winter festivals to get you outdoors & get your blood pumping this January.
1. Back to Hack Winter Festival
Celebrates winter with activities like Frostbite Your Fanny 5K race, family fishing contest, penguin plunge, snow sculpting contest, community bonfire & fireworks.
2. Arctic Fever Winter Fest
Events include dog sled rides, raptor show, geocaching, horse & sleigh rides, human bowling on ice, snow sculpting, Fat Tire bike race on Lake Minnetonka & more.
3. Ouray Ice Festival
For 3 days Ouray becomes an ice climbing mecca when novice & pro climbers travel from round the globe to celebrate the sport of ice climbing.
4. SnoFlinga: Montana’s Winter Festival
Featuring a variety of fitness activities including a 3k, 5k, ice skating, fat tire bike races & more.
5. Blowing Rock Winterfest
Come out to enjoy the fun of winter. Featuring the Polar Plunge in Chetola Lake, Chilly Chili Cook-Off, WinterFeast, WinterPaws Dog Show, Winter Fashion Show, ice carving, concerts & more.
6. WinterFest XV
WinterFest promotes winter activities for all ages, while raising awareness & funds for local nonprofits.
Take part in the culture of Kiruna & enjoy everything from snow-sculptures to painting exhibitions to playgrounds designed in snow.
8. Winter X Games Aspen
An annual competition of great winter sport athletes from around the globe. Featuring day & night events including skiing, snowboarding & snowmobiling.
9. Quebec Winter Carnival
Featuring snow bath, ice canoe race, night parades, snow slides, giant foosball, snow sculptures, shows, sleigh rides & skating.
10. Niobrara River Polar Bear Festival
The festival kicks-off at Meadville Store on Friday with karaoke. The plunge itself takes place in the Niobrara River in Meadville Park at 14:00. With live music into the evening. Spectators are welcome.
Celebrate the fun of winter with ice skating, wagon rides, cross-country skiing & more during this family-friendly event. Admission, parking & most activities are free.
12. MEC Ice Climbing Festival
The festival hub is a 40 foot ice wall on Banff Ave. Also featuring a tradeshow, free ice climbing trials, waterfall ice clinics, informational clinics, the CASA silent auction & speaker evening & a climbing competition.

13. Festival of Sails
The largest yearly keel boat regatta in the Southern Hemisphere. A day of ocean racing & excitement with ten divisions, including multihull & cruising with spinnaker.
14. The Dinagyang Festival
A religious & cultural festival in the Philippines. The event is divided into three attractions: Ati Tribe Competition, Kasadyahan Cultural Competition & the Miss Iloilo Dinagyang.
15. 56th Port Lincoln Tunarama Festival
A family friendly festival featuring a street parade, entertainment from local performers & unique competitions from tuna tossing & watermelon eating to prawn peeling & keg rolling.
16. 49th Tapati Rapa Nui Festival
Celebration the election of the queen of Tapati. Two candidates are presented, supported by their families, friends & visitors. Each group forms an alliance, facing each other through a series of competitions, evoking ancient rivalries between clans who ruled the island.
