Glebe Basketball development commenced as a welfare initiative of Glebe High School in 1990, with basketball programs originally only for High school & through the Primary Links Program, Inner West primary school children. The Melbourne Basketball Associations began to promote & administer basketball competitions enabling participants to play at their ability level. Competitions are generally held at the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre, but venues in other metropolitan areas are utilized when possible.

4. Frankston Blues

The Frankston & District Basketball Association is the biggest sporting association on the Mornington Peninsula, with over 13,000 participants competing annually. The vision of the FDBA is to be the leader in community sports.

The FDBA supports programs include competitions for Primary School participants; people with disabilities; junior & senior grade competitions; referee development & beginner to advanced coaching courses.

The FDBA is the home of the Frankston Blues basketball program, which is the representative arm of the association. This program has produced players who have gone on to play in the NBL; WNBL; USA collegiate level; internationally & in the NBA.

9. Deaf Basketball Australia

Deaf Basketball Australia is the National Body for deaf, hard of hearing & hearing impaired basketball throughout Australia. They act as an umbrella body for their affiliated State Deaf Basketball Associations.

Deaf Basketball Australia was formed 1964 with the original goal of running annual national deaf basketball competitions. They are affiliated with Deaf International Basketball Federation, Deaf Sports Australia & are building a partnership with Basketball Australia.

10. The Melbourne Metropolitan Basketball League

MMBL competitions are each Wednesday evening for Senior Men & Women within the Melbourne metropolitan area. Teams entering must be an affiliated Association of Basketball Victoria.

Games are played at various venues within the metropolitan area, allowing teams to play at home venues or hosting venues. All venues during both winter & summer seasons are responsible for allocating referees for games, along with scoretable officials.
