28 February – 1 March 14:00-17:00
Ashbourne on Shrove
Derbyshire, DE6 1EU
A game played in the town of Ashbourne on Shrove Tuesday & Ash Wednesday. Unlike a regular match, this game is played over two eight hour periods. The goals are 3 miles apart & there are very few rules.
The leather ball with a cork inner is ‘turned up’ from a stone plinth in Ashbourne town centre. The ball is thrown into the air & into the ‘hug’, a group of players trying to move the ball to their goal by pushing against the opposition.
