Every year, a group of people converge on a piece of land with their Trebuchets, Catapults, Torsions & Air Cannons with one thing on their mind, making pumpkins fly.
Powered by gravity, trebuchets use a counterweight attached to an arm to swing the pumpkin in a sling around and release at an optimal pin angle.
Catapults are similar to a Trebuchet, but powered by springs or rubber bands.
Torsions get their name from how much torque they put on twisted rope, that powers slinging a pumpkin into the air.
Air Cannons at the annual Punkin Chunkin are huge potato guns. Using compressed air, these machines shoot pumpkins over 4,000 feet.
Centrifugals build up centrifugal force and release the pumpkin at the optimal trajectory for a distance shot.
